Presentation – Introduction by Guðbjörg Eggertsdóttir
Sadhguru, whose full name is Jaggi Vasudev, is an Indian yogi, mystic, and spiritual teacher. He’s the founder of the Isha Foundation, a non-profit organization that offers yoga programs and social outreach initiatives around the world. His teachings often blend ancient yogic wisdom with practical insights for modern living, focusing on inner transformation, mindfulness, and environmental consciousness.
He’s also known for his engaging talks on topics like consciousness, well-being, and human potential, as well as for initiatives such as Rally for Rivers and Save Soil, which aim to address ecological challenges.
Sadhguru’s philosophy centers on self-realization through direct inner experience rather than belief or ideology. His approach blends ancient yogic science with a modern, practical understanding of life. At its core, his philosophy can be understood through several key ideas:
1. Inner Engineering
Sadhguru describes Inner Engineering as a technology for well-being—a method to align body, mind, emotions, and energy. He teaches that just as we engineer the external world for comfort and convenience, we can also engineer our inner world for clarity, balance, and joy. The process involves meditation, self-awareness, and conscious living.
2. Consciousness and Awareness
He emphasizes that human suffering arises not from external circumstances but from a lack of awareness. By expanding consciousness, one can transcend compulsive thought and emotion, experiencing life with equanimity and joy. Awareness, in his view, is the key to freedom.
3. Responsibility and Freedom
Sadhguru often says, “Responsibility means your ability to respond.” He encourages individuals to take full responsibility for their inner state rather than blaming external factors. This empowerment leads to true freedom—freedom from reaction, fear, and limitation.
4. Living in Harmony with Nature
A major part of his message is ecological consciousness. Through initiatives like Rally for Rivers and Save Soil, he advocates for restoring the planet’s ecological balance. He sees the environment not as separate from us but as an extension of our own life.
5. Science of Yoga
Sadhguru presents yoga not as a religion or exercise but as a science of inner transformation. The practices aim to bring the human system into alignment, allowing one to experience life beyond physical and mental boundaries.
6. The Nature of the Self
He teaches that the essence of who we are is not the body or mind but a boundless consciousness. Realizing this truth dissolves fear and suffering, leading to a state of blissful awareness he calls “yogic balance.”
7. Joyful Living and Spiritual Growth
Sadhguru’s philosophy is not about renunciation but about living fully and consciously. He encourages people to engage with life intensely, yet without attachment, finding joy in every moment.
His teachings invite individuals to explore their inner dimension scientifically and experientially, transforming how they perceive and live life.
